Conga Kids promotes social-emotional wellness through social dance for students across LA County!

Conga Kids believes that magic is created at the intersection of community, dance, and music - and that harnessing that magic can transform lives. Our in-school residency programs give students a celebratory introduction to social dance forms of the African Diaspora – celebrating the cultural, historical, and musical origins of each dance practice, creating shared understanding of global perspectives, and promoting empathy and pride of culture within our diverse school communities.

Through dynamic lessons taught by artists from Los Angeles’s vibrant dance community, our students (aka “the Conga Kids!”) explore styles including Merengue, Samba, Rumba, Salsa, Cumbia, Danzón, Vernacular Jazz, and various Street/ Hip Hop styles!

Conga Kids Mission

To promote social-emotional wellness through social dance!

Conga Kids Programs

Through social dance, students learn the value of respect, collaboration and positive conflict resolution, all while exercising and having fun! Our programs celebrate cultural heritage through authentic dance and music, create thoughtful discussions about the evolution of dance and music over time and across the world, and cultivate a culture of respect and safety in the classroom for students and educators of various social identities, including race, gender, sexuality, and abilities.

Conga Kids hopes to expand its outreach to positively impact the lives of at least 50,000 students annually in the Greater Los Angeles region with its two culturally relevant Residency programs, and by incorporating a new programmatic feature designed for the entire student population: the “Discover the Diaspora” Assembly program, a powerful and joyful learning experience designed to foster conversation about the cultural impact of African descendants throughout the world. This sixty-minute, interactive performance provides a once-in-a-lifetime experience of seeing world-class dancers perform on site, as well as a six-week study guide, to further integrate this arts education learning opportunity for every grade level, building around this exciting and important topic.
